08/11 Electronic ticket gates were brought into use in the ticket hall. Anyone accessing the station from the car park had their ticket checked (or was sold one) by staff on the footbridge. The gates had many people flummoxed, with passengers standing in front of them bemused as to how they operate! Fortunately, ATW staff were on hand to show them what to do. The gates also caught quite a number of people who arrived on trains without a ticket and expected to walk out of the station having had a free journey! Two new ticket machines have been installed in the ticket hall, accepting coins, notes and cards. Despite these, the ticket office windows were considerably busier than normal! (Note – the barrier staff seemed happy to allow free access to the platforms for the “spotters”!)

11/11 47303 hauled 4O51 10:03 Wentloog-Southampton.

18/11 47815 operated 1V86 15:42 Crewe-Cardiff with 47839 d.o.r.

19/11 To cope with people travelling to a Wales v South Africa rugby match at the Millennium Stadium, Arriva Trains Wales ran numerous Class 47 hauled specials. Two 47s left Crewe almost simultaneously, both heading for Cardiff , but in different directions! 47853 worked 1V75 09:14 Crewe-Cardiff via Chester , whilst 47847 did 1Z10 09:15 Crewe-Cardiff via Whitchurch with 47843 d.o.r. 47815 hauled 1Z11 10:10 Hereford-Cardiff with 47839 on the rear. They then headed west as ECS and formed 1Z12 12:19 Port Talbot-Cardiff with 47839 leading. The train then ran ECS to Cwmbran and formed 1Z13 14:10 Cwmbran-Cardiff. Later in the day, the locos worked 19:15 Cardiff-Swansea.

25/11 Due to a shortage of 37s, 47805 worked 2F06 07:39 Rhymney-Cardiff!

26/11 To take fans to a Wales v Australia rugby match at the Millennium Stadium, Crewe again saw two almost simultaneous Class 47 departures. 47839 was on 1V75 09:14 Crewe-Cardiff via Whitchurch and 47847 on 1Z10 09:15 Crewe-Cardiff via Wrexham with 47843 d.o.r. 47815 worked 1Z11 10:10 Hereford-Cardiff with 47853 on the rear.
